Description

You don't have to be a scientist to get inspired by Li Yu's underdog, come-from-behind story. Li was 6 years old when her parents were sent to labor camps during the Chinese cultural revolution. Her parents made the impossible choice to leave her and her 10 year old sister to raise themselves in Beijing. They knew that bringing them to the labor camps - where no schools existed - would have doomed them to a life with few chances.

As difficult as it was for her and her sister to care for themselves and get themselves to school each day for two years - they did it. And Li was determined to make sure she would get the most out of her education. She defied the odds and made it into Chinese university, which only accepted 1% of applicants, and then made the brave journey to the United States for graduate school with only $200 to her name.

Li is a rockstar cancer drug researcher who was the lead member on a team that produced a drug to dramatically decrease brain tumors. This workshop is ideal for teens interested in STEM, and ANYONE looking for advice on chasing even the most impossible of dreams.
