Prince Hakim, son of Robert “Kool” Bell of “Kool & The Gang”, and noted producer and DJ, has grown up around music and funk all his life. Catching the DJ bug at an early age, young Prince Hakim would practice making beats and spinning records with his brother and cousins. As a kid, Hakim would spend summers with music mogul Jermaine Dupri, who DJ’d in his garage, selling tickets for a dollar a pop.
But even his musical lineage, the "royalty" from which he comes, doesn't guarantee Hakim's success. He has earned his spot at the nation's top venues and events like Bonaroo Music Festival, Art Basel in Miami and La Esquina in New York City through hard work and his endless flow of positivity and gratitude. Hakim has shared his talent and time with multiple Montclair community organizations and events because he believes life is to be celebrated, even in the hard moments, and there are always hard moments. Come check out Hakim share his outlook on his journey and how keeping the right outlook has landed him in all the right places.
