Montclair High Alum, Devenne Washington (Class of 2014) speaks from the heart about the pressures of living in this town and going to a high school that emphasizes four-year colleges over other paths. A die-hard SVPA'er, Devenne was convinced that she wanted to become a performer after high school. After spending two years at the New School in NYC, struggling with the realities of student debt, battling mental illness, and combating racism in school and the workplace, Devenne found solace and success in the field of wellness.
She stumbled into a black-owned wellness center in Brooklyn, and worked her way up to becoming the manager of this unique community dedicated to changing the status of healing. She went from being someone who planned out her every step and chasing the next goal to someone learning to be comfortable with figuring things out as she goes. Join her for an intimate circle conversation with some comfy cushions.
